These postcards were produced in France during and just after World War I. They use elements of photo-collage and hand colouring. If the causes of the war were obscure to many people it was clear that the things worth fighting for weren't - the family and the motherland. Not how some cards refer to Alsace, a border region between France and Germany that was contested before the war.
