These bizarre vintage photos gathered by Robert E. Jackson, a collector who in two decades of collecting photographic ephemera has amassed some 12,000 images.
The photographs which were purchased from eBay and other sources, offer a strange and humorous look at the ways 19th and 20th century artists have manipulated photos to decapitate their subjects or otherwise misplace or relocate their heads.
"Sometimes a photo exists simply to provide a smile or a laugh, without any hidden agenda or messages,” says Jackson. "They might say more about the technical abilities of the photographer than the subjects themselves."
