Amazing Photos of the 1964 Ferrari 250 LM

In automotive history, few cars have captured enthusiasts’ imagination like the 1964 Ferrari 250 LM. This rare and coveted machine, produced in small numbers, represents Ferrari’s racing heritage and engineering skill.

The 250 LM’s exterior design blends form and function. Its low profile and streamlined curves were crafted by the renowned Carrozzeria Scaglietti. The distinctive flying buttresses flowing from the roof to the rear fenders add visual interest and improve airflow. The car’s compact size and purposeful stance hint at its racing background, while the iconic Rosso Corsa paint on many examples remains instantly recognizable.

Under the rear clamshell sits the core of this mechanical wonder – a 3.3-liter Colombo V12 engine. This powerplant, refined through Ferrari’s racing experience, generated about 320 horsepower. Placing the engine behind the driver marked a significant change in Ferrari’s design approach, improving weight distribution and handling. This layout would influence future high-performance sports cars for generations.

The 250 LM faced tough rivals on tracks and in showrooms. It competed against formidable opponents like the Ford GT40 and Porsche 904. In the market, it attracted wealthy enthusiasts alongside other exotic sports cars of the time, such as the Lamborghini Miura and Maserati Tipo 151.

One of the 250 LM’s standout achievements occurred at the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans. Despite racing in the Prototype class due to classification issues, a privately-entered 250 LM won overall. This surprising victory solidified the model’s place in motorsport history and added to its allure.

Ferrari built only 32 examples of the 250 LM between 1964 and 1966. This rarity, combined with its racing success and striking design, has made it one of the most valuable Ferraris ever. Here below is a set of amazing photos of the 1964 Ferrari 250 LM.
