Stunning Portraits of Carole Lombard Taken by Robert Coburn for “To Be or Not to Be” (1942)

This session was most likely part of a photoshoot by Robert Coburn on December 31, 1941. Originally, the session was thought to be her last but another Coburn session was traced to January 9, 1942 just one week prior to her tragic death.

Carole loved the To Be or Not to Be script, director Ernst Lubitch, her-costars and the film’s production and declared, despite her husband Clark Gable’s objections to her taking the role, it was the happiest she’d been in years.
