Marie Trintignant (January 21, 1962 – August 1, 2003) was a French film and stage actress. She appeared in over 30 movies during her 36-year career. Her family was deeply involved in France’s film industry, as her father was an actor and her mother was a director, producer, and screenwriter.

Marie displayed an interest in acting as a child, making her film debut at the age of four in Mon Amour, Mon Amour (1967), directed by her mother. Despite her early start, she initially pursued other interests, including a brief ambition to become a veterinarian. Eventually, she embraced her passion for acting and committed herself fully to her craft.

Marie Trintignant’s personal life was marked by her passionate and turbulent relationships. She was married several times and had four sons, each from different relationships. Despite the challenges in her personal life, she was devoted to her family and remained a loving mother.

In 2003, Marie’s life was tragically cut short following a violent incident involving her partner, Bertrand Cantat, the lead singer of the band Noir Désir. While the couple was in Vilnius, Lithuania, an argument escalated, leading to physical violence. Marie suffered severe head injuries and was hospitalized but passed away on August 1, 2003, at the age of 41. Her death sent shockwaves through France and the international film community.

Marie Trintignant remains an iconic figure in French cinema, remembered for her talent, beauty, and the intensity she brought to her roles.
