Born 1914 in Fort Worth, Texas, American actress Martha Hyer was known for her roles in the 1950s and 1960s. She appeared in a variety of films, often playing sophisticated or glamorous characters. Some of her notable works include Some Came Running (1958), for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, The Best of Everything (1959), Ice Palace (1960), The Last Time I Saw Archie (1961), A Girl Named Tamiko (1962), Wives and Lovers (1963), and The Carpetbaggers (1964).
Though Hyer was never a huge box office draw, she became a familiar face in Hollywood, often praised for her elegance and poise.
