In 1978 Farrah Fawcett-Majors was a major Hollywood star at the height of her popularity as a poster pin-up starlet and TV star in Charlie’s Angels. She was also a major tennis enthusiast and player. So much so that she even mentioned the sport on an appearance on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show.
Carson, also an avid tennis player, asked Farrah how she balanced such a busy career in TV, movies, modeling and endorsing products.
“I play tennis,” said Farrah Fawcett. “I think it’s a great outlet for me. I know that in the morning I can be very tense, I just think about the day, how I’m going to organize – four films in the next two years, covers, Faberge (ad campaign), it goes on and on . So I’ll go out and play tennis and if I beat someone, which is a great thrill, all of a sudden I’m mellow throughout the day. I feel better throughout the day after tennis. Men have always had this (physical outlet), women are just now discovering this.”
She was considered one of the best tennis playing celebrities, a regular participant in Pro-Ams and celebrity tournaments.
Farrah credited tennis with helping her get the role of Jill Munroe on Charlie’s Angels because she and her first husband Lee Majors often played tennis with powerful TV producer Aaron Spelling.
