Among her most cherished pets was Mister the Dog, a loyal boxer.
Billie Holiday and Mister had a famously sweet and poignant bond. Mister was a little boxer dog that Billie adored deeply—he was more than just a pet to her; he was her constant companion and source of emotional comfort during some very turbulent times in her life.
She reportedly received Mister as a gift from a friend in the 1950s, and she doted on him. There are stories of Billie taking Mister everywhere, even sneaking him into hotels and clubs where dogs weren’t allowed. He became somewhat of a fixture at her side, especially during her final years when her health was failing, and she was battling legal troubles and addiction.
